El Paso County officially recognizes Buc-ee’s as convenience store

As the battle to bring a second Buc-ee’s to Colorado continues on, they’ve cleared another hurdle, as El Paso County has officially ruled that Buc-ee’s is a convenience store.

With a proposed location near Palmer Lake at I-25 and County Line Road north of Monument, at issue was whether Buc-ees could be considered a convenience store and use land in a C-1 zoning district that would make them able to submit an application to bring a Buc-ee’s to southern Colorado.

Buc-ee’s currently has one location in northern Colorado in Johnstown, also off of I-25.

An issue with many residents of the area is whether Buc-ee’s should be considered a gas station or a convenience store. A consultant for Buc-ee’s argues that with the new location providing groceries, ready-to-eat food, merchandise and more than just gasoline, it should be a considered a convenience store.
