They say not to believe everything you see on the internet, but that also goes for the billboards you see around town…
There is a new billboard in Denver that can seem to suggest there might be dog meat farmers in town. If that caught your attention, then they did their job.
The billboard near the intersection of South Colorado Boulevard at East Virginia Avenue reads, “Denver slaughterhouse ban hurts dog meat farmers,” with illustrations of a dog running from a piece of steak. In smaller letters at the bottom, it says, “If this fake ad bothers you, ask yourself why.”
The billboard comes from Oregon-based vegan activist Molly Elwood. She runs advertisements for her satirical Elwood’s Organic Dog Meat company to bring attention to the “blockers we have around the way we talk about animals and the way we justify how we treat them,” she told Westword.
The Denver billboard is inspired by Initiated Ordinance 309, a ballot measure seeking to prohibit slaughterhouses within the city.
So in short, no, there are no dog meat farmers in Denver. Everyone relax!
