Beyond The Badge – Investigator Jennifer Jones

BTB - Officer Jennifer JonesThis week, we’re proud to salute Investigator Jennifer Jones of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigator Jones is a go-getter with a strong work ethic and has a can-do attitude in everything she does.  She regularly dedicates herself to helping others and volunteers for both work assignments and afterhours community related events.  She has participated in the annual Christmas Crusade for children, Cops Fighting Cancer, does volunteer work at her local Community Church, participated in Comcast Care Days by restoring a local VFW Post, volunteers with educating local elementary school aged children during Health and Safety Events, and numerous other volunteer opportunities.

Investigator Jones has been a Field Training Instructor, Crimes Scene Technician, Crisis Intervention Team member, Colorado Life Track Operator, Hostage Negotiator, Critical Incident Response Team member, and Child Abduction Response Team member.

Investigator Jones began her law enforcement career in April of 2005 when she was hired by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.  Since that time, she has worked in our Detentions Division, Patrol Division, Recruiting and Training Section of the Support Services Division, and for the past year she has been a Crimes Against Children Investigator in the Criminal Investigations Division.  She is a mother of two beautiful daughters and wife of a JCSO Sergeant, she has a remarkable ability to balance her work duties while still fostering a fun and active home life.

In her current position as a Crimes Against Children Investigator, she regularly stands up for children and becomes their voice in the Criminal Justice System.  She also assists with teaching new Crime Scene Technicians the necessary skills to carry out their duties, helps instruct at the Victim Advocate Volunteer Academy and in Patrol Mini-Skills.  She sits on the Child Fatality Review Board and is an active member of the 1st Judicial District Human Trafficking Subcommittee.

Investigator Jones completed her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with an emphasis in Criminalistics from Metro State University in 2003 while receiving a scholarship to play for the University’s Women’s Soccer team.  She also obtained her Master’s Degree in Strategic Innovation and Change Management from Colorado State University Global Campus in 2012.

In 2016 Investigator Jones was awarded the Sheriff’s Office Medal of Valor for displaying great courage in the face of danger during a shooting that occurred in late 2015, while she was following up a Crime Stoppers tip to apprehend a fugitive and registered sex offender.
