Air Force and Colorado State both unveil new football uniforms — which Colorado program looks better?

Football season is almost here, and two of Colorado’s college programs are showing up in fresh threads. Air Force and Colorado State both unveiled new uniforms within days of each other, and while neither is playing for a national championship anytime soon, we can at least argue about who looks better doing it.

Air Force went full military spectacle, because when you’re a service academy, you don’t just drop a new jersey; you drop a new jersey inspired by a stealth bomber. The Falcons unveiled their 10th annual “Air Power Legacy Series” uniform, this year honoring the B-21 Raider, the Air Force’s next-generation sixth-generation stealth bomber and the world’s first of its kind. The uniforms feature a dark grey design with silver depictions of the bomber throughout, from the helmet (which literally says “B-21” on it) to the backplate, patches and a red towel. They’ll debut Oct. 3 when the Falcons host Navy at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs. Northrop Grumman, the company that builds the actual B-21, partnered on the design. “There’s something powerful about seeing the future of American airpower represented on the uniforms of cadets who are themselves the future of our Air Force,” said Tom Jones, Northrop Grumman’s corporate VP.

Colorado State, meanwhile, is going all-in on the new era. The Rams switched from Under Armour to Adidas ahead of their move to the Pac-12, and they’ve now revealed two of their new looks. First came a clean white road jersey on Aug. 21 with “Colorado State” scripted across the front, Pac-12 and Adidas logos, and an orange “A” on the back representing the program’s ag school heritage. Then on Tuesday, CSU dropped the fan-favorite Ag Day throwbacks, and they’re sharp. The orange throwback jerseys read “Colorado A&M” on the front, honoring the school’s days as the Colorado A&M Aggies, with the Aggie “A” on the back and as a big sleeve patch. The white helmet keeps the old-school Angry Ram logo but now features an orange face mask, a fresh twist on a beloved classic. CSU will break out the Ag Day look Sept. 12 when they host Southern Utah at 5 p.m. for their annual “orange out,” and they’ll debut the Adidas gear for the first time Sept. 5 when they host rival Wyoming in the season opener in Fort Collins. The home green uniform still hasn’t been revealed.

So which Colorado program won the uniform reveal? Air Force brought a literal stealth bomber to the fashion show. Colorado State brought a brand-new brand identity for a new conference. One says “we defend the free world.” The other says “we grow things and we’re in the Pac-12 now.” Both are valid. We’ll let you decide.
