Rockies fans get to chant “CarGo” one more time. Carlos González, Broncos center Tom Nalen and Olympic runner Jenny Barringer Simpson lead the six-member class of 2027 for the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, announced Thursday.
CarGo won the 2010 National League batting title and spent years making catches at Coors Field that ended up on highlight reels. Nalen anchored the Broncos’ offensive line for two Super Bowl wins and is already in the team’s Ring of Fame. Simpson starred at CU Boulder, ran in three Olympics and won bronze in the 1,500 meters, which puts her among the best middle-distance runners the country has produced.
The rest of the class is just as Colorado. The late Dave Hill won 13 times on the PGA Tour and six more on the Champions Tour. Jim Saccomano ran media relations for the Broncos for decades and is the longest-serving full-time sports administrator in state history. Steve Bosley co-founded the Bolder Boulder with Frank Shorter. If you’ve ever run up Folsom Field’s ramp on Memorial Day dressed as a banana, you can thank him. Bosley was chosen as the class’s “old-timers” pick.
All six will be inducted April 15 at the Hall’s 62nd annual banquet at the Hilton Denver City Center. Tickets are $300 each and are available through the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame at coloradosports.org or 720-258-3535.
