WATCH – PBR World Champion overcomes injury for 91-point ride to win Colorado event

Jul 13, 2026, 4:44 PM | Updated: 5:15 pm

It takes 6 million pounds of dirt to turn Colorado State’s Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins into a bull riding arena. It apparently takes a whole lot more than a gnarly groin injury to keep PBR World Champion John Crimber out of one.

The 20-year-old phenom wasn’t even supposed to ride this weekend. Crimber suffered the injury June 30 at the Greeley Stampede after getting bucked off a bull named — and this is real — Sharp Dressed Man. He skipped Cowboy Christmas to recover and was left off the original lineup for the PBR Teams season-opener in Fort Collins. Then, because cowboys gonna cowboy, he talked his way into the chute anyway.

Day one didn’t go great. Crimber failed to post a qualified ride, and fans started to wonder whether his bruise — which PBR helpfully shared on Instagram in all its purple, mango-sized glory — was still a problem. But day two was a different story. Crimber climbed aboard a bull called Dirt Honey and ripped off a 91.90-point ride to close out the Bulls and Beats event, helping his Florida Freedom squad grab their first win of the 2026 season.

For anyone keeping score at home, CSU’s Canvas Stadium required 102 truckloads of dirt to transform from a Rams football field into a rodeo ring for the two-day event. Crimber’s next PBR Teams event isn’t until July 31, giving him a couple of weeks to let that bruise fade — though knowing this guy, he’ll probably find a rodeo somewhere in between.
