There’s been speculation for months, but the bad news for rodeo fans in Colorado is official… The Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame & Museum of the American Cowboy and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) headquarters are leaving Colorado.
The PRCA has called Colorado Springs home since August of 1979, but with no room for growth in the area after nearly 50 years, the PRCA Board of Directors has voted to move to Cheyenne, Wyoming.
The PRCA Board of Directors deliberated for two days last week on close to a dozen offers it said it had received, including a proposal from Colorado Springs leadership, in a bid to keep the organization in its present home. Ultimately, “this is a strategic decision that positions the PRCA for the future,” PRCA CEO Tom Glause said in a media statement. “Wyoming lives and breathes rodeo, and Cheyenne offers authenticity, visibility and alignment with our sport’s values.”
The transition is anticipated to happen in 2029.
