A Colorado man drove across a golf course and tried to run down the golf pro

Wyoming already had strong opinions about Colorado drivers. This week didn’t help.
A 48-year-old Lakewood man was arrested Monday evening after police say he drove a pickup truck across the golf course at the Cheyenne Country Club, about 100 miles up I-25 from Denver. Officers got the call around 5 p.m. When they arrived, the blue GMC Sierra crashed through the course’s fence and took off. He’s now facing 10 charges, including felony property destruction, fleeing police and reckless driving.
The scariest part happened before police got there. Branden Burbank, the club’s golf pro, told Cowboy State Daily the driver tried to run him down after tearing up the course, and he still doesn’t know why. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.
Then came what might be the most Wyoming police chase ever: a slow one. According to a police affidavit, the pursuit through Cheyenne never went over the posted speed limit. The driver allegedly ran stop signs and red lights, went the wrong way down one-way streets and drove on the wrong side of the road, but he never actually sped. A witness who filmed the truck crawling down Carey Avenue toward historic downtown said the whole thing felt surreal, like it was happening in slow motion. It was less “Fast & Furious” and more “Driving Miss Daisy.”
To be clear, most Coloradans cross the state line for fireworks, cheaper gas or Cheyenne Frontier Days, not to redo someone’s back nine in a pickup. If you’re craving a round before the snow flies, Colorado has plenty of courses that happily take tee times, and they’d like you to leave the truck in the parking lot.
