For the first time in over 100 years, new fossils have been found at Colorado’s Dinosaur National Monument!
On September 16, while parking lot construction was taking place at Colorado’s Dinosaur National Monument, a new set of fossils were discovered, making it the first fossils discovered in over 100 years when some were found in 1924.
The fossils are believed to be those of a Diplodocus and were found not too far from the Quarry Exhibit Hall, where the “Wall of Bones” displays over 1,500 fossils.
Since the discovery, about 3,000 pounds of fossils and surrounding rock have been removed to be cleaned and studied by scientists.
