Cheyenne Mountain Zoo wants public’s help in naming baby gorilla

Sep 23, 2025, 4:00 PM | Updated: Sep 24, 2025, 7:55 am

I always say that all baby animals are adorable, but this new baby gorilla at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs is in a league of its own as the cutest! Oh, and it needs a name…

The zoo has welcomed its first gorilla baby born at the location in 13 years, and the public can donate any amount starting at $5 until Thursday, Oct. 9, to vote for one of three names that the keepers have chosen. The name receiving the most combined donations will win.

The name choices are Abu, Ryder or Sully.

The money raised will help fund historic improvements to great ape habitats at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

The winning name will be announced on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

A donor has also agreed to match all donations up to $25,000 so all donations can have twice the impact. Vote to help name the baby gorilla here.

Check out how cute this little gorilla is…
