Bring your family and friends to the 2025 Nathan Yip Foundation’s Mid-Autumn Festival from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at the Rockley’s Event Center in Lakewood.

Often referred to as the Thanksgiving of the East, this event is kid-friendly and includes delicious family-style dining and mooncakes. The Mid-Autumn Festival raises funds for the Nathan Yip Foundation’s new multi-year rural Colorado school grants, helping to close the educational opportunity gap between rural and urban schools in the state. Rockley’s Event Center will be filled both indoors and out (weather permitted) with booths and activities for kids of all ages and their families that celebrate the holiday. What is the traditional Mid-Autumn Moon Festival?

Marking the end of the fall harvest, the Mid-Autumn Festival was traditionally a time to give thanks, so it is also known as the Thanksgiving of the East. It is a time of year that the moon is at its brightest, which is why lunar legends have always been attached to the celebration. Most notable in Chinese lore is the the story of Chang Er, the wife of the hero, Hou Yi, who shot down nine of the ten suns with his bow and arrow. She drank an elixir of immortality to save it from a greedy student of Hou Yi – Peng Meng. Chang Er then ascended to the moon and has been worshiped by the Chinese as a Moon Goddess ever since. Each year, fruits and cakes are displayed as an offering to the Moon Goddess.
