Some stories just write themselves. Usually they come from Florida, but this one happened right here in Colorado…
The Idaho Springs Police Department was doing an investigation into potential credit card fraud at a local hot spring resort on Tuesday (Aug. 26) when a bizarre chain of events soon followed.
According to Idaho Springs Police, an officer was conducting the investigation alongside a Clear Creek County deputy when they contacted the suspect, 33-year-old Alec Bogus of Aurora, as he was getting out of the mud bath at the resort. Police said Bogus became uncooperative and was able to run from officers, in his Speedo swimsuit and covered in mud, heading up the side of a mountain to the east of the hot springs.
Law enforcement searched the area and used a drone in their search for Bogus, eventually finding him, “still covered in mud” and trying to hide in a shed.
Bogus was taken into custody, and faces charges of assault on a peace officer, burglary, obstruction and resisting arrest. As of Wednesday morning, Bogus was still in custody according to online jail records.
