What’s Colorado’s most misspelled word this year?

We all have at least one word we just cannot spell no matter how many times you look it up. What’s yours? Mine is “available.” I had to use spellcheck to write it in this story, true story. However, that is not the one Colorado struggles with most.

A recent study from Word Unscramblerer, a company that teaches people how to create or unscramble words for games like Scrabble, revealed what the most common misspelled words are for each state using Google Trends data showing the number of times a phrase like “how do you spell?” Or “how to spell?” was searched.

Coloradans have the most difficulty spelling the word “sergeant.” We were the only state that has the most trouble with that word.

Here are the most misspelled words across the United States in 2025:

1. Definitely — 33,500 searches
2. Separate — 30,000 searches
3. Necessary — 29,000 searches
4. Believe — 28,500 searches
5. Through — 28,000 searches
6. Gorgeous — 27,000 searches
7. Neighbor — 25,500 searches
8. Business — 24,200 searches
9. Favorite — 23,000 searches
10. Restaurant — 22,500 searches
