Denver’s zoo is hoping you’ll donate blankets to their apes

Mar 6, 2025, 3:42 PM | Updated: 5:54 pm

There’s a reason we have the term “safety blanket” in the English language… Blankets bring a lot of comfort to a lot of people, but turns out it’s actually not just people!

I learned today that apes also love blankets. So much so that the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance is asking the good people of Colorado to donate their gently used blankets, sheets, tablecloths or other cloth bedding to the zoo’s apes.

The apes use them for for building nests, playing, and staying warm, and the zoo goes through a bunch each year.

A donation station is set up at the zoo’s Boettcher Welcome Center, where you can drop off clean, gently used bedding. Please ensure items are free of zippers, tassels or other hanging elements. We will be accepting donations now through the end of March.
