If you’ve ever wanted to see where your holiday packages come from, now’s your chance. Amazon plans to hire about 6,500 people across Colorado for the holiday rush. The openings are seasonal, part-time and full-time jobs across its Colorado operations network, which covers warehouses, sorting and delivery. Many seasonal workers will also get the chance to move into permanent roles after the holidays.
It’s part of a much bigger push. Amazon is hiring more than 300,000 people nationwide this season, 50,000 more than it aimed for last year. Over past holiday seasons, Amazon delivered more than 1.5 billion toys, home goods, beauty products and electronics worldwide, so all those hands will have plenty to do.
Seasonal workers make about $20 an hour on average. Full-time operations jobs start at $20 an hour or more, and average pay is close to $24. Amazon is also adding health coverage for seasonal workers. Starting Jan. 1, seasonal employees who work at least 30 hours a week can get healthcare, and anyone hired on or after Jan. 1 is covered from day one. Before you sign up, know what you’re in for: some shifts are overnight or on weekends, and a lot of the work means standing and lifting for long stretches. Good shoes are a must.
To apply, go to hiring.amazon.com. Amazon is posting new jobs every week through December, so check back even if nothing’s open near you yet. You can also sign up for text alerts. Apply only through Amazon’s official site. Scammers love holiday job seekers, and a real employer will never ask you to pay to get hired.
