DIA to introduce cashless parking experience starting Monday

Jan 2, 2025, 3:44 PM

Denver International Airport parking is going cashless.

In a press release published on Thursday, the airport announced that the kiosks positioned at the exit of the parking lots will soon only accept payment by credit/debit cards or tap-to-pay methods. The transition to the new kiosks will start Monday and will be completed by the end of the month, according to the statement. DIA claims that the project is an effort to “streamline parking operations” and “improve the overall parking experience for customers.”

This will not affect a large number of people parking at the airport, however. Those who used cash to pay for parking dropped from 4.25 to 1.11 percent in 2024. According to DIA, about 60,000 cash parking transactions are made annually, which “represents a small fraction of total annual transactions.”

Even so, there will be an exception to the rule – those who wish to pay with cash will be able to still do so using four new kiosks inside the main terminal on level five; two at Terminal East between doors 507 and 509, and two at Terminal West between doors 506 and 508. Those opting for this route must do so before arriving to their vehicles. The machines will scan the original parking ticket and provide a receipt, which can then be scanned at the exit of the parking facilities. The ticket must be scanned within a given amount of time, depending on the location of the parked car.

  • East and West Garage: 30 minutes
  • East and West Economy: 45 minutes
  • Shuttle: 60 minutes

If the time restrictions aren’t met, additional charges will be incurred.

According to Mark Nagel, senior vice president, DEN parking and commercial transportation, “Transitioning to a cashless experience at our exit lane kiosks will improve traffic flow and create an even more efficient operation across all of DEN’s parking locations.”
