Why did a Denver Nuggets super-fan & season ticketholder for over 30 years get banned from games this year?

If you’ve watched or been to Denver Nuggets games over the last three decades, you’ve likely seen a woman right at the entrance to the Nuggets tunnel to the dressing room holding signs and high-fiving players. Well, sadly she’s no longer there…

72-year-old Vicki Ray is that Nuggets super-fan I refer to. She’s had season tickets for 32 years, and 25 years in that perfect spot to high-five the team. She’s actually only missed seven games outside of COVID. During those seasons, she’s given hugs and candy to the players, birthday cards to the referees, and has built personal relationships with many on and associated with the team.

Something went sideways this year though…

Ray was told the signs she’s brought for years would no longer be allowed. She was told she would not be allowed in early before games or be allowed to stay after when the players came out to greet family and friends like she had for years also. She’s also been accused of grabbing a referee and hitting a player in the face.

In the middle of February, she says she was called and informed she was being banned.

Ray has an attorney who is working to get her back in her seats, and the Nuggets ownership, Kroenke Sports and Entertainment, issued the following statement:

“We have made the difficult decision to revoke the Season Ticket Membership of a longtime fan due to repeated violations and warnings of the NBA’s Code of Conduct as well as Ball Arena’s Code of Conduct. We are saddened to take this action but have done so in accordance with league and venue guidelines.”
