The first thing Amazon nearly made extinct was bookstores because that’s what they were first. So you’d think as the retail giant just keeps getting bigger bookstores would have no chance in 2026… Wrong!
Colorado is among nine states along with Washington D.C. that are slated to get new Barnes & Noble stores in 2026, according to USA TODAY.
The chain wants to open 60 new stores over the next year, with “several openings” planned by June 2026. They also opened more than 60 stores in 2025, including a pair in Colorado.
The report did not give locations or the number of new stores that Barnes & Noble would open in Colorado, but said it is on the list to get at least one new store.
Barnes & Noble opened two stores in Colorado in 2025:
- Glenwood Springs: 115 E. Meadows Drive (Glenwood Meadows)
- Superior: 550 Marshall Road
