On Dec. 1, CMT surprised Nashville fans by revealing that the first half of the TV show’s Season 5 premiere episode will air three weeks earlier than anticipated, on Dec. 15. But the delightful video announcement from Charles Esten wasn’t the only offering that show’s new network gave fans: Click play above to watch a fiery new promo clip recapping all the drama from Season 4 and providing one more sneak peek of what’s to come.

If you’ve started to forget all that transpired at the end of last season, don’t worry: The new ad recaps some of the craziest moments leading up to Season 5. From Rayna Jaymes and Deacon Claybourne’s marriage to Maddie Conrad’s emancipation to the cliffhanger of Juliette Barnes’ plane in distress, it’s hard to imagine how Season 5 will top its predecessor. However, from what the trailer shows of the upcoming new season, it’ll be big.

Not only does the above trailer reveal snippets of a new character named Clay (who may or may not have a fling with Maddie?!), it hints at a season of rediscovery and rebirth for many of the main characters on Nashville — that includes Connie Britton‘s Jaymes and Jonathan Jackson’s Avery Barkley, who must recover from the aftermath of Barnes’ missing plane. While showrunners Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick have revealed that (spoiler!) she does indeed survive the harrowing experience, they have also shared that the Season 4 cliffhanger will change almost everyone on the show.

The first hour of Nashville’s special two-hour season premiere will air on Dec. 15 at 9PM ET on CMT, with the official season premiere set for Jan. 5.
