WATCH – Sheriffs wrangle loose wallaby in Denver neighborhood

In 2025, there were a few cases of loose kangaroos in Colorado, leading us to learn that you can legally own the Australian-native animals as pets in our state. So, no surprise, you can also own their smaller cousin, the wallaby, as a pet too, and they also get loose!

Body camera video from the incident on Jan. 29 shows Douglas County deputies outside a home where the owners of the wallaby were trying to corral it back inside their house.

Once the sheriffs helped wrangle the wallaby into it’s house, they spent a little time getting to know it. It’s name is Charlie, and it actually has its own Instagram.
