WATCH – Colorado police officers chase and capture a pet kangaroo

Colorado is known for having a bunch of unique wildlife… But not kangaroos. So why were police called to catch one here recently?

On Wednesday, the Durango Police Department shared a video on Facebook of officers pursuing the animal, which was spotted hopping down the street.

In body camera footage dated Sept. 18, one of the officers can be heard laughing as they determine how best to capture the red kangaroo.

Later in the video, the kangaroo can be seen apprehended in someone’s arms. The police department said the animal was later returned to their owners.

According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, it is legal to own a red kangaroo in Colorado.
