Was a bear really spotted in Downtown Denver?

Aug 6, 2024, 3:00 PM | Updated: Aug 7, 2024, 3:18 pm

Bears are kind of like the mountain versions of sharks… They’re hungry, but they really don’t want to be around humans, therefore they try to stay away as much as they can. So the likelihood that a bear would end up in Downtown Denver is very slim.

Still, a social media post has gone viral that allegedly shows a bear downtown.

The video, taken on July 1 in Confluence Park, has accumulated millions of views and thousands of comments, but are you ready for it… The bear was actually a beaver, says Miles Ifie, the man who recorded and posted the clip.

“I knew it was a beaver when I posted,” Ifie admits. “I did not think it was a bear.”

Ifie says the video was initially posted on his Instagram story without identifying the animal, prompting an “overwhelming response” from people asking if the animal was a bear. He then reposted the video as a reel with the caption “bear spotted in downtown Denver?!” as a joke, he says.

Once again… Do NOT believe everything you see on the internet!
