Turkeys are taking over Denver

Apr 15, 2025, 3:34 PM | Updated: 3:46 pm

Have you seen more turkeys than normal roaming around Denver lately? Well, you aren’t seeing things and you aren’t alone!

The Arapahoe County Government said animal services has been receiving several reports of turkeys roaming neighborhoods this spring, but they also remind us that it’s completely normal.

Turkeys are native to Colorado, and since the 1980s, there have been restoration efforts to boost the turkey population. As a result, the turkey population in our state saw an all-time high in 2020 and continues to grow.

Spring and summer is turkey mating season, so the birds tend to be more active.

With the price of chicken eggs these days, I’m wondering if anyone has ever tried turkey eggs…maybe I’ll get lucky and get one of the birds to start laying some in my backyard!
