Denver’s 16th Street Mall to feature $1.6 million metal tree

When did art get so dang expensive? It wasn’t long ago that Denver International Airport announced they were putting a $3.5 million tree in their great hall, and now another really expensive fake tree is headed to Denver.

This week, the Denver City Council approved the art installation where Poetic Kinetics Inc., an Elbert, Colorado-based art studio, will add three kinetic steel and acrylic sculptural aspen trees to the intersection at Glenarm and 16th Street Mall.

In total, the city is giving the company $1,636,320 to build this exhibit.

The partnership’s proposal plans to open the blocks between Market Street and Glenarm Place on May 31 and June 1, lining the summer opening weekend up with the Outside Festival. Meanwhile, the 16th Street Mall is expected to reopen completely this fall.

Despite efforts to stop, Colorado cops will still be able to ask their most popular question
