The medical scare that changed Phil Vassar’s career | Music City Minute

Aug 12, 2024, 3:46 PM

Phil Vassar has been a mainstay in country music since the 90s. His hits include, “Carleen,” “Just Another Day in Paradise” and he co-wrote “My Next Thirty Years,” recorded by Tim McGraw. Vassar recently opened up about a series of medical events that literally killed him. Early in 2023, Vassar had a heart attack followed by a stroke. Medical professionals confirmed he had no heartbeat for 30 minutes. The obvious assumption would be that his lifestyle contributed to his heart attack. However, Phil admitted that he was never really a drinker or partier and worked out every day. Ultimately, it all came down to genetics. These days, Vassar is feeling pretty good. Before his traumatic event, he was averaging about 100 shows a year. He is happy to be back out on the road, albeit with a much slimmer tour schedule. The singer-songwriter said that he is just grateful to still be here.
