Last penny ever made by Denver Mint sold in auction for millions

For the sake of the guy who just spent a fortune on the last penny ever made at the Denver Mint, I hope the coins never make a comeback…
The last pennies ever made in the U.S. sold for more than $16.7 million at auction on Thursday. Stack’s Bowers Galleries in California sold 232 sets of three coins each, with prices averaging about $72,000 per set.
The final set, which included the very last pennies from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints plus a 24-karat gold penny, went for $800,000. Each coin was marked with a Greek omega symbol to show it was from the final run.
The U.S. stopped making pennies in November because they cost more than two cents each to produce.
