Without a doubt, the coolest thing the NHL does is their annual outdoor game that they now call the Winter Classic. The Colorado Avalanche have been blessed to host the game twice, once at Coors Field and once at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, and next year they will get to be a part of it again.
The Avalanche will play in the 2027 NHL Winter Classic, but this time it’ll be as the visiting team. The team will play against the Utah Mammoth at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Utah, the league announced on Wednesday.
The Avs also technically “hosted” the Vegas Golden Knights at Edgewood Tahoe Resort for the NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe event in 2021, so this will be the fourth outdoor game for the team. The Avalanche are 1-2-0 all-time in outdoor games.
Additional details for the game, including ticketing information, date and start time, will be announced at a later date.
