Alexandar Georgiev played in last season’s NHL All-Star Game, and came into this season with high hopes for the Colorado Avalanche. However, a really rough start to the season, and not even halfway through the year he’s no longer a member of the team…
Georgiev will be going to the San Jose Sharks as part of a trade that will bring goalie Mackenzie Blackwood and forward Givani Smith to the Avs. Forward Nikolai Kovalenko and draft picks were also part of the trade deal.
Georgiev was acquired by the Avalanche in 2022 in a trade with the New York Rangers. He’s posted an 86-41-11 record while with the team.
Blackwood has started 17 games for the Sharks this season and has a 6-9-3 record with one shutout and a .910 save percentage. Before joining the the Sharks in the 2023-24 season, he played for the New Jersey Devils, where he recorded 143 wins and 8 shutouts.
