In 1994, Clint BlackTanya TuckerThe Judds and Travis Tritt were the first country artist to perform at halftime.

In 2003, Shania TwainNo Doubt and Sting provided the halftime entertainment.

Charley Pride sang the National Anthem in 1974.

It would be 19 years before another country star was asked to sing the Anthem. In 1993, Garth Brooks sang it at the game, but his performance was not without controversy.

Garth said he’d do the anthem if his video for “We Shall Be Free” was shown during the game. Before game time, producers reviewed the clip and decided it was too controversial. Garth left the stadium until his demand was met.

Garth and producers talked it out, he sang the Anthem and the video was aired.

In 2000, Faith Hill‘s performance was flawless.

Less than two months before the Dixie Chicks‘ controversial comments about President George W. Bush in 2003, they sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl 37.

Who can forget Carrie Underwood‘s powerful performance in 2010?

Luke Bryan got high marks for his rendition last year.
