For the past 10 years “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has held the crown as the highest grossing movie in the United States with $936.66 million dollars. Today that record has been beaten as Spider-Man: Brand New Day crosses $937 million and counting.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released on December 18th 2015 across the country and went on to accumulate over $2 Billion at the box office world wide. When it was released, it was the first movie to make over $100 million in a single day and went on to become the highest grossing film domestically in just 20 days.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has currently made over $2.453 billion across the world and became the second fastest film to gross $1 billion in just 6 days time.
Spider-Man’s release with other massive box office successes such as The Odyssey, Toy Story 5 and the Michael Jackson Biopic “Michael” have reinvigorated the box office with one of its strongest Summer’s of all time. Many of the #’s have been amplified with purchases of premium movie experiences such as IMAX, 4dX and other premium formats, but has been a welcome boom for theaters and movie studios alike.
