Scout trucks are officially coming back to Colorado

If you were born after 1980, you likely don’t remember Scout trucks, because that’s the year they stopped making them, but now you too will get to experience them in Colorad0
47 years after they stopped making Scouts, they are returning with two models, the Terra and the Traveler… One truck, one SUV, both electric.
Backed by Volkswagen, Scout had a major win with Colorado’s Motor Vehicle Dealer Board, who voted 6-2 on December 16th to grant the startup a dealer license, permitting it to bypass the state’s franchised dealerships. This decision hands Scout a significant early regulatory endorsement for its direct-sales model, even as dealer groups mount fierce legal challenges across the country.
The approval, valid through October 31st, 2026, clears Scout to establish brand-owned experience centers and sell new vehicles in the state. Scout plans to have vehicles on Colorado roads starting in 2027. Colorado dealers immediately condemned the move, framing it as a dangerous circumvention of laws designed to separate automakers from the retail sector.
