Runner: Colorado Springs Halloween 5K Event Was Fyre Festival Of Races

Runners were not happy with event organizers of the Colorado Springs Halloween 5K and Half Marathon event that occurred Saturday morning in Colorado Spring.

As a runner, after reading the accounts in the Colorado Springs Gazette; I, too, would be disappointed had I paid for what I thought would be a good experience.

People travelled (and paid the registration) from all over to participate in what turned out not to be much of an event and what seems like even worse excuses from organizers.

One woman drove Amarillo, Texas to race with her friend. After lining up babysitters and coming half way across the country with her friend, she found a starting line with homeless people camped out, unknowledgeable organizers – which also had no identification – and no marked route to the finish line.

Apparently there were no medals and t-shirts for many participants, to which organizers said their trailer was stolen which was loaded up with all the goodies. But even the story of theft was called into question as some runners were in fact given medals. So did the medals just reappear as one participant mentioned, or is the story more that they didn’t have enough goodies such as medals for the runners and t-shirts when the packet pick ups occurred.

Also noted, Colorado Springs wasn’t the only city to get the short end of the stick in this event. The organizers held this event in several cities nationwide including Little Rock, Arkansas where participants had likewise complaints about the event.

The comments on the Facebook page for the event are piling up too. As you can see, many folks are not happy with the event and, especially, the organizers.
