Regal Continental Movie Theater Closes its Doors

Apr 15, 2023, 2:59 PM

After decades of bringing some of the biggest movies to the big screen here in Denver, Regal Continental has closed its doors.  According to the story on 9News, employees had no idea the closing was coming.  I even went and saw an advanced screening of Renfield last week at the Continental and everything seemed business as usual.  (My Renfield review is below.)

The effects of the Covid 19 pandemic have hit the movie industry especially hard with theaters having to be shut down for many months. Compounding the industry’s struggles were several big movie releases being pushed straight to streaming platforms such as Netflix & Disney+.  Several months ago Cineworld, the parent company of Regal, announced that several theater closures were coming , and in Colorado they had listed Meadows Stadium 12 and Southglenn Stadium 14 in Centennial as those that would be closed, but as of this weekend only Regal Continental had been closed (and also Regal Cinebarre Greenwood Plaza here in the DTC is no longer showing times, though they had moved to mainly showing movies only at night recently.)

Personally, its definitely a bummer as it was a theater I frequented on many occasions, and hopefully not too many of our local theaters will be affected.

If you’re feeling like hitting up a movie this weekend and helping our local theaters out, get local movies times here!
