Popular Denver Restaurant Forced to Close Following Double-Homicide

Apr 25, 2023, 5:02 PM | Updated: 5:07 pm

Anytime something bad happens at a place you go to, it feels a little closer to home, and that’s the case for me today waking up to the news of a horrific event at a restaurant I’ve been to many times.

American Elm, a popular restaurant in Denver’s West Highland area, will be closed for the rest of the week following a “tragic event” that took place at the restaurant on Monday. The event is reported to be a double-homicide that is currently under investigation by Denver police.

American Elm published a statement that included the following: “At this time, we are focused on providing our staff mental health support and will be closed for the rest of the week.”

Denver Gazette reports that the incident took place indoors, with KDVR further noting that two people were found dead inside of American Elm.

The victims have been identified as Emerall Vaughn-Dahler and Ignacio “Nacho” Gutierrez Morales, according to police.  They said they don’t yet have any suspect information to share, but they don’t believe there is any danger to the public.

Anyone that knows anything about this case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers Colorado at 720-913-7867.
