In KYGO’s Performance Studio, Niko Moon played “BOAT SONG,” “SANDCASTLES” and “GOOD TIME,” the former being his two most recently released singles, and the latter being the first single he released back in 2019.
Moon, who was in town to open for Michael Franti & Spearhead May 30 at Red Rocks, mentioned that he performed at the iconic venue just once over a decade earlier to open for the Zac Brown Band. The “GOOD TIME” singer’s connection with the Zac Brown Band goes far beyond opening for them in Morrison.
In fact, the 42-year-old solidified his career as a songwriter by cowriting several songs with the band, including “Homegrown,” “Heavy Is the Head,” “Keep Me in Mind,” “Beautiful Drug” and “Loving You Easy.” He coproduced the “Jekyll + Hyde” and “Welcome Home” albums for the group, released in 2015 and 2017, respectively. Moon, Zac Brown and Ben Simonetti, another writer for the band, subsequently teamed up to form the group Sir Rosevelt.
The Texas-born singer-songwriter ventured into his solo career by signing with Sony Music Nashville in 2019. Since then, he has released two albums: “GOOD TIME” in 2021 and “BETTER DAYS” in 2024. Moon plans to release his self-described “vacation album,” “AMERICAN PALM,” in July.
