New Colorado traffic law goes into effect today. What you need to know.

Aug 7, 2023, 12:21 PM | Updated: 12:21 pm

A new law is going into effect today in Colorado to help prevent crashes that occur because of existing crashes and that’s the new updated “move over” law.

On a day that was proclaimed by Colorado Governor Jared Polis as “Slow Down, Move Over Awareness Day”, the law goes into effect requiring drivers to move over a lane or slow down to at least 20 MPH below the posted speed limit when they not only encounter emergency vehicles, but now also any disabled vehicle with its hazards activated.

Not following the law will put you at risk of a Class 2 misdemeanor with a $150 fine and 3-point license violation.
