Legendary Denver Bar/Restaurant Closing After 20 Years

Mar 21, 2023, 4:53 PM

Now officially post-pandemic I was hopeful that the bar and restaurant closures would slowdown, but they almost seem to be increasing, and this one stings…

Blake Street Tavern, a popular sports bar in downtown Denver, has announced that it will be closing its doors permanently. The news has come as a shock to many locals and sports fans who have frequented the establishment over the years.

The decision to close the bar was not an easy one, according to the owners. In a statement released to the media, they cited a number of factors that contributed to the closure, including the ongoing pandemic, rising rent costs, and a decline in business due to changing consumer habits.

Blake Street Tavern has been a fixture in the Denver community since it opened its doors in 2003. Over the years, it has become known for its lively atmosphere, great food, and extensive selection of beers on tap. It has also been a popular spot for watching sports games, with multiple big-screen TVs and a projector that regularly show live sporting events.

The news of the closure has been met with disappointment from many locals and regulars. Blake Street Tavern was not just a place to grab a drink or watch a game, but a community hub where people could come together and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow sports fans.

Many have taken to social media to express their sadness over the closure and to share memories of their experiences at the bar. Some have even started online petitions in an effort to save the establishment, although it remains unclear if any efforts will be successful.

While the closure of Blake Street Tavern is certainly a loss for the Denver community, it’s also a reminder of the challenges faced by small businesses, especially during the pandemic. As consumers continue to shift their habits and preferences, it’s important to support local establishments that we value and want to see thrive.

As for Blake Street Tavern, its owners have expressed their gratitude to the community and to all those who have supported the bar over the years. While it’s sad to see it go, the memories and experiences it provided will live on for many years to come.
