Larry Walker Elected To Hall Of Fame

Jan 22, 2020, 12:19 PM | Updated: 12:21 pm

Derek Jeter and Larry Walker were elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame on Tuesday, with Jeter falling just one vote short of a unanimous vote in balloting by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Only his former New York Yankees teammate, closer Mariano Rivera, has ever gotten an unanimous vote, when he was selected last year. Walker was elected in his 10th and final year of eligibility, getting six votes above the 75 percent needed. They will be inducted on July 26th at the Hall in Cooperstown, New York.

  • Jeter spent his entire 20-year career as the Yankees’ shortstop, more than half that time as team captain, winning five World Series. He was AL Rookie of the Year in 1996, a 14-time All-Star and a five-time Gold Glove winner.
  • Walker was a right fielder for the Montreal Expos, Colorado Rockies and St. Louis Cardinals. The five-time All-Star was the 1997 NL MVP and led the majors in batting average in 1998, 1999 and 2001.
