Kroger and Albertsons to Sell Over 50 Colorado Grocery Stores to Piggly Wiggly’s Parent Company

Sep 9, 2023, 4:17 PM | Updated: 4:18 pm

Kroger and Albertsons are set to sell dozens of stores in Colorado – all part of their efforts to satisfy anti-trust officials – clearing a path for the two grocery giants to merge.

In Colorado, Kroger and Albertsons operate King Soopers, Safeway and City Market branded stores.

According to a report on CBS Colorado, the two companies plan to offload 413 total stores, nationwide, to C&S Wholesale Grocers, LLC, which is Piggly Wiggly’s parent company.

Kroger says their merger with Albertson’s is still on track to be complete in early 2024, ever after meeting concerns from local and state officials about the two creating a grocery monopoly.
