Jokic Wore a Taco Bell Cardigan, Dropped 56, and Still Had Time for a Haircut

Nikola Jokić might be one of the most fascinating athletes in Denver sports history — and last night was yet another reminder why.

The three-time MVP is known for keeping a low profile, spending his offseasons back home in Serbia with his horses and rarely chasing the spotlight. But on Christmas night, Jokić gave fans a rare glimpse into his sense of humor — and then followed it up with one of the most ridiculous performances of his career. Earlier this week, Nuggets fans received Quesarito T-shirts in honor of Jokić being drafted during a Taco Bell commercial years ago. When asked about it, Jokić laughed it off and said he didn’t even plan on trying one. Fast forward to Christmas Day, and Jokić walked into Ball Arena wearing one of those same shirts — layered under a custom Taco Bell cardigan. The internet immediately lost its mind, and Nuggets fans got a rare peek at Joker’s playful personality. Then he went out and did what only Nikola Jokić can do.

Jokić put on an all-time performance, finishing with a 56-point, 16-rebound, 15-assist triple-double, leading the Nuggets to a thrilling overtime win in front of a national audience. It was one of the most dominant stat lines in NBA history — and he made it look effortless. But the night didn’t stop there. After logging 43 minutes on the floor, Jokić somehow found time to sneak in a postgame haircut before his press conference — something you truly don’t see in professional sports. No one even asked him about it, but the internet definitely noticed.

The reason? The Nuggets are heading out early this morning to begin a 13-day, seven-game East Coast road trip, starting tomorrow in Orlando.

Nikola Jokić may not chase the spotlight, but nights like this remind everyone why he’s one of the most unique superstars the game has ever seen — and why Denver is lucky to call him theirs.
