It’s official, the Sundance Film Festival is coming to Colorado

Mar 27, 2025, 3:38 PM | Updated: 4:53 pm

The Sundance Film Festival is the largest independent film festival in the United States, and it’ll soon call Colorado home!

The Sundance Institution announced on Thursday that Boulder beat out two other finalists, a joint bid by Salt Lake City and Park City, Utah, and Cincinnati, Ohio, to become the new host of the world-renowned film festival starting in 2027.

The city is set to host the event from 2027 through 2036 after being held in Utah since 1978 in Park City, Salt Lake City and at the Sundance Resort near Provo.

Like the 2025 Sundance event, which ran Jan. 23 through Feb. 2 in Park City, Boulder’s will be programmed during the same time period.
