Hero Who Took Down Colorado Springs Nightclub Shooter Gets $50K

Nov 30, 2022, 3:31 PM

The man who helped take down the alleged shooter at a Colorado LGBTQ nightclub is rewarded with $50-thousand. When a gunman opened fire at Club Q in Colorado Spring last month Rich Fierro was there with his wife and daughter. As the shooter fired into the crowd indiscriminately, Fierro, a 45-year-old Army veteran and two-time Bronze Star recipient who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, says his instincts kicked in and he rushed to stop the gunman.

“I don’t know exactly what I did, I just went into combat mode,” Fierro says. But witnesses say he ran through the crowd, grabbed the gunman by the back of his body armor and pulled him to the ground. He then jumped on him, wrestled his guns away from him and used the shooter’s handgun to beat him into submission. Once Fierro had subdued the assailant, other patrons assisted in securing the firearms and helped to keep him down until police arrived.

Earlier this week at a gathering of community members at Fierro’s family’s business, Atrevida Beer Co., he was honored for his heroic actions. ENT Credit Union, who had an employee injured in the shooting, recognized Fierro with a $50-thousand reward. A representative from the credit union says they wanted to give back to a man who saved so many lives and whose family has been impacted by the shooting. A grateful Fierro says he hopes the money will help his family heal from the tragedy.
