Here’s how to get a free, fresh Christmas tree in Denver this week
Dec 22, 2025, 4:13 PM
To me, this is one of the neatest, yet most underrated holiday traditions in the Denver-area. A chance for folks who can’t afford a Christmas tree to get one for free, thanks to the generosity of one Colorado tree nursery. .
Since 2018, Echter’s Nursery & Garden Center in Arvada has given away hundreds of trees to families who might not otherwise have the means to afford one.
The giveaway of Christmas trees is back in 2025 and will be held Tuesday, Dec. 23, through Wednesday, Dec. 24.
Trees, gift bags and toys will again be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis, with no requirements for participation.
Here are the main details:
- Echter’s Nursery & Garden Center
- 5150 Garrison St., Arvada
- Tuesday, Dec. 22, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Wednesday, Dec. 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Santa, Mrs. Claus and the Arvada Fire Department will bring their holiday sleigh and classic fire truck to the garden center on Wednesday, Dec. 24.
Ornaments, decorations and tree stands were donated by Echter’s customers. The store is still taking donations of ornaments, lights, tree stands and new/unused toys, which can be dropped off at Echter’s.
