Grade B eggs are popping up on Colorado shelves for a discounted price

I saw something at the grocery store the other day that I’d never seen before… Grade B eggs, and they were quite a bit cheaper than the other eggs offered.

Most eggs you see at the grocery store are Grade A or AA, which have firmer whites, rounder yolks, and flawless shells. Grade B eggs may have minor imperfections.

Grade B eggs offer pretty much the same nutritional value as higher-graded eggs, essentially they just aren’t as pretty.

However, not all eggs labeled as Grade B are actually of lower quality. Some King Soopers stores in the Denver metro area are repackaging undamaged Grade A or AA eggs into Grade B cartons as a way to reduce food waste while offering consumers a lower price. “The undamaged eggs are the same quality as Grade A eggs; they are simply repackaged,” said a King Soopers spokesperson.

Although prices vary, grade B eggs are usually at least a few dollars cheaper per dozen than the grade A or AA eggs.
