First Official Snow of the Season Likely This Week in Colorado

Sep 5, 2023, 5:06 PM

Y’all are already drinking pumpkin spice lattes and wearing hoodies even though the temperatures around Denver have been consistently in the 90’s the last few weeks, so I am sure this is a welcomed story…

9News reports that there’s a possibility that snow will land in the Rocky Mountains on Tuesday morning, which could be enough to count as the first official snow of the season. An early September snowfall in the high country is normal for the state, by the way.

Mountain-Forecast.com report is also calling for snow, saying there could be three inches on Mount Yale from Friday to Saturday.

Although mountain snow is normal this time of year, it’s a little more rare to see snow this early on the front range. September 3rd is the date of Denver’s earliest snowfall in recorded history. 4.2 inches of snow fell on September 3, 1961. Denver’s average first snowfall is on October 18, so most likely, we’ve still got several more weeks until snow flies around town.
