Eric Church shares insight into friendship with Morgan Wallen, Mark Chesnutt grateful for new lease on life | Music City Minute

May 7, 2025, 4:00 PM

Eric Church has opened up about his friend, Morgan Wallen, and that infamous chair-throwing incident. While the scene was still very active, Church was grateful that Wallen called to give him a heads up and he didn’t have to learn about the exploit through the press. Needless to say, Church gave his friend some grace, explaining that things happen and you just have to roll with it. The “Springsteen” singer goes on to quote the Billy Joe Shaver song, “I’m just an old chunk of coal, but I’ll be a diamond one day.” Church feels like this was a wakeup call for Morgan and he’s proud of him for trying to turn his life around.
Speaking of fresh starts, Mark Chestnutt confessed to overcoming his demons. Back in 2023, Chesnutt suddenly canceled the string shows due to undisclosed health problems. At the time, we really didn’t know how close we were to losing him. It turns out an injury from when he was a young man was starting to haunt him again, and he required two surgeries to fix it. Unfortunately, the pain and boredom led the singer down a path of heavy drinking, which caused more damage internally. Chesnutt’s hospitalization in the fall of ’23 forced him to realize he was at rock bottom. Thankfully, the “Brother Jukebox” singer is now maintaining sobriety and enjoying his new lease on life!
