The National Western Stock Show is currently being held in and around the Denver Coliseum, and as I do my radio show live from the Coliseum everyday, I try to soak in the history of the building that’s been hosting events since 1951. That includes quite possibly the most famous entertainer than ever was… Elvis Presley.

Elvis came to Denver to perform on four occasions, three at the Denver Coliseum; April 8th, 1956, November 17th, 1970 and April 30th, 1973.  His final concert in Denver was on April 23rd, 1976 at the late McNichols Arena.

During the 1956 performance, 21-year-old Elvis played the Coliseum, drawing a total of 16,000 for two shows. The shows in the 70’s were both one performance each.

Other acts who’ve played the Coliseum include Grateful Dead; The Who; The Rolling Stones; The Monkees; Cream; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young; Ike and Tina Turner; Led Zeppelin; The Moody Blues; Jethro Tull; Santana; Brewer and Shipley; the Eagles; Bob Dylan; Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra.
