Denver Police Department warns of credit card courier scam

Mar 16, 2026, 1:37 PM | Updated: Mar 18, 2026, 2:31 pm

The Denver Police Department warned on their Facebook page about a sophisticated credit card courier scam that drained almost $2,000 from one victims account.

The post comes from an incident that occurred earlier this month, when the scammers contacted the victim and seemingly used several pieces of information – likely acquired through data breaches – and used them to convince the victim their banking account had been compromised.

They informed the victim they would need to go to their home and retrieve the old card and then sent a verification code, which the victim shared with the suspect, likely giving them access to the account.

The DPD reminds people in the post that banks will never send someone to your home to collect cards, and the same with calling asking for verification codes. If you ever have concerns about someone contacting you to access your account, you can hang up and directly call your bank.
