AMC Theatres opens two Premium Large Format experiences in Denver metro area

Going to the movies in Denver used to mean picking between stadium seating or the sticky-floored discount theater. Now your choices include getting misted with water while your chair bucks like a mechanical bull, or watching Spider-Man swing so far off-screen he’s practically in the parking lot.

AMC Theatres opened two new Premium Large Format experiences in the Denver metro area last week, and they are not your grandparents’ movie theater. SCREENX at AMC debuted July 30 at AMC Highlands Ranch 24, wrapping select scenes across a 270-degree panoramic display that extends the picture onto the auditorium’s side walls — turning your peripheral vision into part of the movie.

One day later, 4DX at AMC opened at AMC Westminster Promenade 24, pairing blockbusters with motion-synchronized seats and environmental effects including wind, water and more. The 4DX showings for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” were already showing “Almost Full” this weekend.

The two openings are part of a broader AMC investment blitz in the Denver market. Since 2023, the chain has added six Premium Large Format experiences across the area — including Dolby Cinema, XL at AMC, SCREENX and 4DX — while also upgrading its three local IMAX locations with laser projection.

“We’re excited to continue expanding our PLF options across Denver and bring guests new ways to enjoy their favorite films,” said Dan Ellis, AMC’s EVP and chief operations, development and marketing officer.
