Denver fan launches petition to turn Empower Field into a park when the Broncos leave

Aug 3, 2026, 4:54 PM

In a handful of years when the Denver Broncos leave Empower Field at Mile High for a new stadium, what happens to the old one? My guess, more apartments probably… Josh Rosenblum really doesn’t want that!

Rosenblum, who lives a few blocks from Empower Field at Mile High, launched a petition last week asking the city of Denver to convert the stadium site and its surrounding parking lots into a public green space he’s calling “Mile High Park.” The pitch, hosted at milehighpark.org, had racked up about 230 signatures as of Sunday and is gaining steam on social media.
Transform Mile High Stadium into a Public Park His argument: the footprint holds decades of Denver sports memories — from Super Bowl champions to McNichols Arena to Barack Obama’s 2008 acceptance speech — and paving it over with high-rises would be, in his words, “a missed opportunity.”

“For fans to come back here and have it be concrete boxes and show their kids and grandkids the concrete box as opposed to a great space with great memories with hopefully plaques and statues commemorating all the great teams that were here, it would be a missed opportunity,” Rosenblum told FOX31. He also noted that neighbors already use the stadium’s lots and sidewalks for exercise and that the area could use more green space.

Rosenblum says he knows the clock is on his side — for now. The city has said it expects to begin discussions about the site’s future in 2027, around the same time the Broncos are eyeing a groundbreaking for the new stadium. He doesn’t have a set signature goal and simply wants as many names as possible before those conversations start.

So if you’ve ever watched the sun set behind the Rockies from Lot G with a pregame brat in hand, Rosenblum’s message is simple: sign the petition before your tailgate spot becomes a condo.
